Orbitofrontal Cortex Volumes in Patients Diagnosed with Somatic Symptom Disorder

چکیده
Aim: Somatic symptom disorder (SSD) is a psychiatric with unknown etiopathogenesis that still under investigation. The results of neuroimaging studies on SSD have shown some brain regions may be associated it. In this connection, study aims to explore the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) morphometric changes in patients better comprehend etiopathogenesis.
Material and Methods: enrolled 20 healthy controls. All participants were administered sociodemographic clinical questionnaire, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) Anxiety (HAM-A). volumes total brain, OFC, white matter, gray matter measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based method studied patients.
Results: Orbitofrontal volume was significantly smaller patient group than controls (p0.05).
Conclusions: OFC markedly controls, suggesting pathophysiology. Future examining functional features using cognitive function tests will likely shed more light issue.
Keywords: somatic disorder, volume, cortex, MRI

Orbitofrontal cortex volumes in medication naïve children with major depressive disorder: a magnetic resonance imaging study.
OBJECTIVES Adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) are reported to have reduced orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) volumes, which could be related to decreased neuronal density. We conducted a study on medication naïve children with MDD to determine whether abnormalities of OFC are present early in the illness course. METHODS Twenty seven medication naïve pediatric Diagnostic and Statistical Manu...

Physical symptoms with uncertain medical explanations are some of the most common presentations in primary care. As many as 25% of visits to primary care physicians are prompted by physical symptoms that lack any clear organic pathology [1]. Although some patients with medically unexplained physical symptoms experience mild and/or transient discomfort, others experience substantial discomfort, ...

With the release of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th ed., the diagnostic category previously known as somatoform disorders is now called somatic symptom and related disorders. The revisions were intended to increase their relevance in the primary care setting. The main feature of this disorder is a patient's concern with physical symptoms that he or she attributes ...
متن کاملPosterior orbitofrontal sulcogyral pattern associated with orbitofrontal cortex volume reduction and anxiety trait in panic disorder.
AIMS The posterior region of the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC), which forms its sulcogyral pattern during neurodevelopment, receives multisensory inputs. The purpose of the present study was to assess the relationship between posterior OFC sulcogyral pattern and OFC volume difference in patients with panic disorder. METHODS The anatomical pattern of the posterior orbital sulcus (POS) was classif...

Objective: Somatic symptom disorder (SSD) is characterized by somatic symptoms that are very distressing or cause considerable functional disability. SSD is associated with various medical and psychiatric conditions and imposes high costs on the patient's health care system. Therefore, diagnosis and treatment of SSD are crucial. The Somatic Symptom Scale-8 (SSS-8) is a valuable and brief self-r...
